Finland to acquire short-range air defence systems from Sweden

Finland will purchase RBS 70 NG short-range air defence missile systems from Swedish manufacturer Saab, the Ministry of Defence announced on Friday.

The systems represent an advanced version of the ITO05M already in use by the Finnish Defence Forces. The acquisition is intended to strengthen air defence coverage across the country.

Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen has authorised the procurement, stating that Finland is developing its air defence capabilities comprehensively.

“In preparing for various threats, we must have the right, up-to-date tools for each need. This purchase is one part of a broader effort,” Häkkänen said.
