Coast Guard helicopter dispatched after car enters river

Rescue teams and police were called out after a car went into the Kleifá river on Snæfellsnes, mbl.is reported. The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter at its highest priority.

Responders were at the scene, but the number of people in the car was not known. Authorities believed the incident was serious.

A Coast Guard spokesperson said the helicopter was sent at the request of West Iceland police and had taken off a few minutes earlier. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration said the road by Kleifá could remain closed for much of the day.
