Man sentenced to 11 years for murder of business partner in Espoo
A 62-year-old man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Länsi-Uusimaa District Court for the murder of his long-time business partner in Espoo’s Soukanniemi district, Yle reports.
The court ruled the murder was premeditated and carried out with particular brutality. The victim, a 57-year-old man, was attacked in his own home in May 2025 with a craft knife after disputes arose over their business dealings.
According to the judgment, the convicted man had felt pressured and deceived in business matters. On the day of the murder, he arrived in Finland from a business trip, purchased a knife, and went to his partner’s apartment. There, he brandished the knife, demanded answers about financial irregularities, and then stabbed and slashed the victim, who was on his knees or on the ground. The victim briefly stood up at one point but died from his injuries during the assault.
The defendant admitted to killing his partner but denied premeditation and the charge of murder. A psychiatric evaluation found him to have diminished criminal responsibility.
In addition to the prison term, the court ordered the loss of his military rank, a crime victim compensation fee of 80 euros to the state, and payment of other legal costs.
