A 20-year-old man has been remanded in custody for 14 days following a fatal crash in Tilst that killed a 64-year-old woman, East Jutland Police reported.

The man was arrested late Tuesday after a car drove into a house on Hindøvænget in the Skjoldhøjparken neighbourhood, fatally injuring the female resident. He was charged under Section 241a of the Danish Penal Code, which covers traffic-related fatalities, and remanded after a court hearing in Aarhus on Wednesday.

According to duty officer Peter Svith Poulsen of East Jutland Police, the 20-year-old was already known to authorities. The crash followed a brief police pursuit after reports of street racing near a Bilka supermarket parking lot in Tilst. Poulsen stated the car in question had been driving most recklessly, prompting police to attempt an intervention before the driver fled at high speed.

Three other men—another 20-year-old and two 19-year-olds—were in the vehicle but have since been released. The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Authority (DUP), which investigates incidents where a death occurs following police action. DR legal analyst Louise Dalsgaard noted the DUP must determine whether the pursuit and the crash were connected, a process that may take time.

The man has denied the charges but did not appeal the remand decision. On Wednesday evening, between 100 and 150 people gathered to lay flowers and observe a minute of silence in respect for the victim and her family.
