Anneli Auer has filed a claim with the State Treasury for more than €1.3 million in compensation for nearly four years of wrongful imprisonment, Yle reports.

Auer and her former partner, Jens Ihle, were acquitted of all charges in April. Ihle is also preparing a compensation claim, though the amount remains undisclosed, according to his lawyer, Kaarle Gummerus.

Tatu Hyttinen, associate professor of criminal law at the University of Turku, said Auer’s claim aligns with her previous compensation for wrongful detention in the 2016 Ulvila murder case, where she received approximately €800 per day. Adjusting for annual index increases of around 2%, the daily rate would now be roughly €980.

Hyttinen noted that if approved, this would be the largest compensation for wrongful imprisonment in Finland. Public scrutiny may further justify the amount, as media attention can amplify suffering.

The government has proposed capping compensation for wrongful detention at €120–180 per day, with a minimum of €80. The proposal is currently under review.
