Denmark has inaugurated the world’s largest robotics centre of its kind on the former Lindø shipyard site in Odense, DR reports.

The Large Structure Production (LSP) facility, operated by the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), features a hangar with a custom-built gantry crane equipped with four collaborative robotic arms. The system can handle components up to 35 x 20 x 10 metres, with each square metre of floor space supporting 15 tonnes—even when the hangar is flooded.

Funding for the centre totals approximately DKK 500 million, including a DKK 90 million contribution from the A.P. Moller Foundation. Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, representing the foundation, emphasised the site’s historical significance for her family and the Maersk group.

Business Minister Martin Lidegaard described the facility as a major advancement for Danish robotics, noting its potential impact on national security and technology ownership. Local officials, including Kerteminde mayor Michael Nielsen, highlighted the centre’s role in securing jobs and attracting residents to the area.
