Judge orders three teenagers held over alleged school terror plot

Three teenagers suspected of planning an attack on Hadsten School have been remanded in custody in a secure youth institution until 31 August, DR reported Monday.

A judge at Randers District Court found reasonable grounds to suspect that the boys, aged 15, 16 and 16, had attempted to commit terrorism under Section 114 of Denmark’s Criminal Code.

According to the charges, they planned to kill or injure several people at the school. The preparations allegedly took place on the online platforms Discord and Telegram.

Police said the plan was not carried out because the three were arrested on Monday morning. One was arrested in Copenhagen and the other two in East Jutland.

The teenagers are being held in substitute detention because of their age. They will stay at a secure institution for young people until their next court hearing, when a judge will decide whether they should remain detained.

The judge said the decision was based partly on findings from searches of the boys’ homes and on their profiles on platforms including Discord and TikTok.

All three have denied the charges through their defence lawyers. The 15-year-old plans to appeal the detention to the High Court, while one of the 16-year-olds is considering an appeal. The other 16-year-old accepts the detention.

The judge also ordered mental examinations for all three.
