A new playground in Copenhagen’s Postbyen district near the central railway station is encouraging adults to stay off their screens while children play, with signs reading “Screen-free playground” accompanied by a small heart.
The initiative, launched by pension company Danica, aims to create a space where parents can focus on being present with their children, according to Camilla Thind Sunesen, the company’s product and development director.
“Parents are frustrated and feel powerless, pulled into a world controlled by tech giants,” she said. “This is a small suggestion to create a space for families to improve their well-being.”
Parent Pernille Pakaci welcomed the idea, calling it a helpful nudge. “I think it’s fine to get a reminder now and then—not someone pointing a finger, but all of us helping each other to be more present with our children,” she told DR.
Danica stressed that the rule is not enforced, and the heart symbol is meant to signal a friendly request rather than a prohibition.
