Man injured after falling into gorge near Háafoss

Rescue operations were under way after a man fell into a gorge near Háafoss at the innermost part of Þjórsárdalur, mbl.is reported.

Einar Valsson, operations manager at the Icelandic Coast Guard, said the man was believed to have fractured his ankle.

“The person fell into the gorge and is most likely suffering from a broken ankle,” Valsson told mbl.is.

Rescuers were on their way to the injured man and were expected to reach him within an hour.
