A 30-year-old man from Lappeenranta is accused of committing nearly 60 thefts across the city over a 12-month period, prosecutors told the South Karelia District Court on Tuesday.
The man allegedly stole alcohol, shoes, headphones, perfume, a hat, and ground beef from various stores between April 2025 and March 2026, according to the 58-count indictment. Prosecutors described his actions as demonstrating “long-term disregard for others’ property.”
Most thefts occurred at S Group stores, but incidents were also reported at K Group outlets, Motonet, Lidl, Alko, and Tokmanni. The Ison-Kristiina shopping centre in Lappeenranta was a frequent target.
The stolen goods ranged in value from a few euros for candy to approximately €470 for folding locks, stickers, and clamps taken from Motonet. The man was arrested on March 30 after allegedly stealing alcohol and shoes from a K-Citymarket.
Prosecutors are seeking an eight-month unconditional prison sentence, full restitution to affected businesses, reimbursement of state evidence costs, and a €120 victim surcharge. The court is expected to deliver its verdict within two weeks.
The man remains in custody to prevent further offences.
