Recent statistics reveal that women in Iceland are nearly twice as likely as men to have completed higher education. In 2023, 43.5% of individuals aged 25 to 34 in the country had obtained a university degree. Of this group, 31.3% were men, while 57.5% were women.

Additionally, almost 38% of this demographic completed upper secondary education, while 19% had only finished their basic education, as reported by Statistics Iceland.

Those residing in the capital region showed a higher likelihood of having completed higher education, with 48.5% holding a degree compared to 33.4% in rural areas.

The proportion of university-educated individuals in this age group in Iceland surpasses the European Union average, which stands at 43.1%. The EU has set a goal for 2030, aiming for 45% of its residents aged 25 to 34 to possess higher education qualifications.
