A planned pedestrian tunnel connecting Norðskála to the main road near Streymin will cost 15 million krona, transport minister Jacob Vestergaard confirmed Friday in response to a query from MP Bill Justinussen.

The project, which involves routing the path beneath the main road toward Oyrarbakki, has been under consideration since 2007, when the Løgting approved funding for a feasibility study. A tender for the work was issued at a bid of 4.2 million krona, but lawmakers did not allocate sufficient funds to proceed.

Vestergaard noted that resolving the pedestrian crossing issue with traffic lights alone would cost an estimated five million krona.
