Norway will avoid the extreme heat gripping much of Europe, with meteorologists forecasting a shift to cooler, wetter conditions over the coming days, Dagbladet reports.

While southern Europe faces red alerts for record-breaking temperatures, Norway’s national weather service expects no such warnings. “The relatively warm temperatures will move toward northern Norway, not the south,” said duty meteorologist Ingrid Opheim Bækkelund. She added that the 15-to-20-day outlook for Oslo shows temperatures mostly between 15–20°C, with no signs of extreme heat in the immediate forecast.

A weather system shift is underway across Europe, as high-pressure zones giving way to low-pressure systems bring rain, thunderstorms, and cooler air. Southern Norway will feel the effects, with cloudy skies and scattered showers, while northern regions may see improving conditions by the weekend. “Nordland and Finnmark will gradually get clearer skies and some sun,” Bækkelund noted, though temperatures will remain modest, hovering just above 10°C before rising slightly next week.

Oslo’s forecast calls for partly cloudy but dry conditions, with highs of 20–22°C and only a slight chance of rain Friday and Saturday. Bergen and Stavanger, however, will see cooler weather, with highs of 10–15°C and persistent cloud cover. Trondheim faces similar gray skies through Friday, with brief dry spells before more overcast conditions return.

Bækkelund cautioned that while no heatwaves are imminent, climate patterns remain unpredictable. “We’re continuously assessing the risk of extreme temperatures,” she said, adding that Norway’s typical summer warmth often arrives later in the season—sometimes even reversing the usual north-south gradient. “It’s not unheard of for northern Norway to end up warmer than the south.”
