Another subcontractor on the construction of the New Odense University Hospital (Nyt OUH) has filed for bankruptcy, leaving 173 employees out of work, the Danish public broadcaster DR reported on Thursday.

The company Techno Build declared a voluntary bankruptcy, according to OHPT (Odense Hospital Project Team), the Italian-based main contractor. OHPT press spokesperson Christian Lemvigh said in a written statement that the firm only learned of the bankruptcy this week and that the reasons were not related to the project.

Regional council chairman Bo Libergren of the Venstre party said he was concerned about the workers and the project’s timeline, which already suffered after the bankruptcy of another subcontractor, Tekno Fire, in December 2025, affecting 240 employees.

“It is a grim situation for the employees,” Libergren told DR. He said the region is in contact with the main contractor, which is contractually responsible for subcontractors.

The union 3F’s local building branch said about 50 of the affected workers are members. Chairman Torben Knudsen said the bankruptcy was no surprise, citing long-standing problems with wage and pension payments.

Two weeks earlier, workers from the Romanian company Raffa and Team Solution reported they had not been paid for months, blaming delays in payments from OHPT. The workers received their wages shortly after the issue was raised, DR reported.

Region of Southern Denmark is the client for Nyt OUH, which is expected to become Denmark’s largest newly built super hospital. The current timeline targets admitting the first patient by the end of 2027, after multiple delays from the original 2022 completion date.
