Finnish emergency services have released safety instructions for the public after issuing an early-morning warning about a potential drone threat in the Uusimaa region, reports national broadcaster Yle.

Residents receiving an alert about a suspicious drone are advised to move indoors immediately, preferably to a central room with sturdy walls, and stay away from windows. If indoors is not an option, seek the most sheltered outdoor location available. Even without visible or audible signs of a drone, authorities urge vigilance and readiness to take cover.

If a downed drone or its parts are found, treat it as a potential explosive device. Do not approach—maintain a minimum distance of 150 metres—and call emergency services at 112. Warn others nearby and prevent anyone from getting close. Do not share the drone’s location or images on social media.

When spotting a drone in flight, assess the situation cautiously. If the drone appears threatening or explosions are heard, prioritise safety by moving to a central indoor space away from doors and windows. Follow official updates once secure. Contact emergency services if the drone is observed near restricted areas (such as power plants, airports, or critical infrastructure) or if a crashed drone is found. Avoid calling 112 for general inquiries.

The guidelines come as Finnish defence authorities investigate reports of unauthorised drone activity in Uusimaa, though they have stated there is no direct military threat to Finland.
