Ironman and cycling race close roads across Copenhagen

Several roads in and around Copenhagen will be closed or affected for hours on Sunday as Ironman Copenhagen and the Frederiksberg Criterium cycling race take place, DR reports. Police and the Danish Road Directorate are advising road users to plan alternative routes and avoid the affected areas where possible.

More than 3,000 people are registered for Ironman Copenhagen, which will cover large parts of North Zealand, Amager and Copenhagen. Copenhagen Municipality expects about 200,000 spectators to watch the competitors pass locations including Amager Strand, Nyhavn, the Little Mermaid and Amalienborg.

The event begins on Sunday morning at Amager Strandpark. After the swimming section, competitors will cycle towards central Copenhagen and on to North Zealand along Strandvejen.

Amager Strandvej will be affected from the morning, while several other roads, including roads in central Copenhagen, will also be closed during the event. Traffic will be diverted in many places while the race is under way.

The Frederiksberg Criterium cycling race will run several laps of a circuit passing along Gammel Kongevej, Frederiksberg Allé, Pile Allé, Roskildevej and Søndre Fasanvej. The route will be closed for several hours on Sunday.

The sporting events follow Saturday’s Copenhagen Pride parade, which also closed parts of Copenhagen. Several roads in central Copenhagen, including H. C. Andersens Boulevard, were closed as the parade crossed the city.
