Children’s matches canceled at Norway Cup due to waterlogged fields in Oslo
The tournament organizers announced on Saturday that due to surface water on most fields at Ekeberg, children’s football matches scheduled for Sunday, July 28, will be canceled. However, matches for the remainder of the week will proceed as planned.
In total, 109 children’s matches at the Norway Cup will be affected by this cancellation. Other games will be relocated to artificial turf fields throughout Oslo, according to chairman Øystein Sundelin. He emphasized that only the matches not progressing to cup play will be canceled, stating, “All matches that are part of the group stage and will later proceed to cup play will be held.”
Sundelin expressed disappointment over the postponement but acknowledged that there is little that can be done given the recent heavy rainfall. “Many children were excited to play tomorrow, but by canceling, we ensure optimal conditions for Monday. We hope their eagerness to play can be postponed by 24 hours,” he shared, adding that the weather forecast for Monday looks promising. “We are looking forward to it,” he concluded.
