A Norwegian-British company plans to build one of Finland’s largest data centres in Liperi, eastern Finland, with construction potentially beginning in early 2027, reports Yle.

Scale42, a Norwegian-British firm, intends to develop an 800 million euro data centre on the Välikangas industrial site in Ylämylly, Liperi. The facility, designed for artificial intelligence applications, would occupy roughly nine hectares near Polvijärventie road.

The first phase of the project is expected to require 60 megawatts of power, creating an estimated 30–60 jobs, based on the company’s projection of 0.5–1 job per megawatt. Scale42’s CEO, William Tasney, praised the site’s location and the municipality’s efficiency in advancing the project.

Liperi’s municipal manager, Pellervo Hämäläinen, noted that the area is easily accessible, adjacent to power lines, and well-suited for industrial use. The site also allows for future expansion and potential utilisation of waste heat.

The municipality will review the lease agreement in its council meeting next Monday, followed by a vote in the municipal board the following week. Scale42 has previously signed a preliminary agreement for a similar project in Kitee and is in discussions with other Finnish locations.
