Hungary hands 22-year-old suspect to Denmark over girl’s disappearance
Hungarian police have handed a 22-year-old Hungarian national over to Danish authorities in the case of a 15-year-old girl from Hedensted who disappeared in early August and was found in Hungary several days later, DR reports.
The Hungarian National Police press office confirmed the handover in an email to DR News on Wednesday, referring further questions to Danish authorities.
According to Hungarian authorities, the man is suspected of establishing a relationship with the 15-year-old Danish girl “with the aim of later committing sexual offences against her”. He was previously charged at a court hearing in Horsens. DR cannot report the precise wording of the charge because a reporting ban is in place.
Hungarian police suspect that the man transported the girl from Denmark to Hungary on 4 August with an unidentified accomplice. They said he met her through social media and manipulated her because of her young age and lack of experience.
The girl was found in Hungary after two days. The 22-year-old had been held in pre-trial detention there since 11 August. Southeast Jutland Police has no comment on the case at present.
