AGF championship victory sparks food frenzy in Aarhus
Local businesses in Aarhus are struggling to keep up with demand as fans celebrate AGF’s first Danish football championship in 40 years with themed food products, reports DR Østjylland.
At Slagter-Riget, a central butcher shop, co-owner Bjarke Jensen says customers are buying eight to ten “kom så de hviie” (come on, the whites) smoked sausages at a time. The shop initially ordered enough casings for a limited run but has now placed an emergency order for 10,000 more, expecting to sell 40,000 sausages by year’s end. “I’m actually worried we won’t be able to keep up,” Jensen admitted.
Local ice cream maker Okkels Is in Risskov created a special AGF vanilla ice cream with white chocolate crema dyed blue and topped with gold sprinkles. Director Thomas Okkels reported selling 10 litres in a single day—unusual for a grey, 13°C week. “Right now, you could probably sell anything with AGF on it,” he said.
At Schweizerbageriet bakery, 200 AGF-themed coconut-rolled cakes shaped like medals sold out within hours on Monday. Owner Tine Lajer Petersen said demand caught them off guard: “People have been calling all day asking when we’ll restock.” The bakery plans to bake more for Tuesday.
Even Jama Ost, a cheese shop, has joined the celebrations. Their special AGF Danbo cheese, produced in collaboration with Thise Mejeri, has been discounted by 40 kroner per kilo—one krone for each year Aarhus waited for the title. A portion of sales supports Red Barnet (Save the Children) and AGF’s fan initiatives. Last year, the shop sold 2.5 tons of the cheese.
The surge reflects the city’s euphoria after AGF’s long-awaited championship, with businesses rushing to meet fan demand for commemorative—often blue-and-white—themed treats.
