Elderly Finns stage walker marches across the country to demand better services
Elderly people and their supporters are taking to the streets in nearly 30 locations across Finland on Wednesday afternoon in a series of “walker marches” to advocate for dignified ageing and improved senior services, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
The protests, organised under the slogan “valuing old age,” aim to highlight concerns over the state of elderly care services and celebrate the diversity of ageing. Participants—many using walkers, canes, or wheelchairs—are marching to draw attention to the need for better support systems for Finland’s ageing population.
First held last year in Tampere with around 2,000 participants, the event has now expanded into a nationwide movement. Organisers say the marches are a visible call for policymakers to prioritise elderly care and recognise the contributions of older citizens.
