Swedish Democrats (SD) politician Richard Jomshof says he wants to become Sweden’s democracy minister, a post he suggests could oversee his campaign against Islam and what he calls Islamisation. SVT reported his comments.

With three weeks remaining before the election, Jomshof is spending much of his time discussing Islam. He is currently touring the country with a book, giving lectures to SD supporters about the religion, which he considers a threat to democracy.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has accused Jomshof of sabotaging the election campaign after Jomshof urged Muslims to stop being Muslims in an interview with Dagens Nyheter.

“He is entitled to think that. All politicians and parties seek attention. Otherwise, perhaps they would not be doing their job. But above all, I am pursuing what I believe in, and my party is pursuing the issues we believe in,” Jomshof told SVT during a visit to Falun.

Kristersson has promised the SD ministerial positions after the election if the Tidö parties remain in power. SD leader Jimmie Åkesson recently refused to rule out Jomshof’s appointment after Jomshof called opposition leader Magdalena Andersson “a quisling”.

Jomshof said he was not interested in the ministerial positions currently under discussion because they would be too difficult to combine with his campaigning on Islam.

“If there were a ministerial position dealing with Islam and the Islamisation issue, that would be different. I would take it immediately, I promise. Honestly, I would,” he said.

Asked whether he wanted such a position, Jomshof replied: “Yes, of course. It could perhaps come under some kind of democracy minister. That would be interesting, definitely if one could pursue that issue there.”
