Complaints about digital services regulation nearly double in Finland
Complaints related to the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) filed with Finland’s Transport and Communications Agency Traficom rose sharply last year, according to a report by national broadcaster Yle.
In 2023, Traficom received 123 complaints, compared to 72 the previous year. The majority concerned major social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, with users frequently reporting insufficient explanations for account or content restrictions.
Jenni Koskinen, a director at Traficom, said the increase reflects growing public awareness of the regulation. “Users are better at identifying when a platform’s actions fail to meet regulatory requirements,” Koskinen stated in a press release.
Under EU rules, complaints are typically processed in the country where the service provider is based. Over half of last year’s cases were transferred to other EU member states for handling.
