Finnish police in Oulu used a drone to track and apprehend a suspected drunk driver who fled on foot, reports public broadcaster Yle. The incident occurred late at night in the Toppila district after authorities received a tip about an intoxicated motorist.

A police patrol stopped the suspect’s vehicle shortly before midnight, but the driver abandoned the car and attempted to escape. A second patrol unit deployed a drone to locate the fleeing individual. The drone operator guided officers to the suspect’s position, leading to a quick arrest.

The driver is now under investigation for aggravated drunk driving, drug-related offences, and driving without a valid licence.

In a separate incident the same evening, police detained another intoxicated driver on Kaarnatie road. The motorist, who allegedly blew well over the legal alcohol limit, became aggressive and refused to comply with officers’ instructions. After being taken into custody for a blood test, the suspect continued disruptive behaviour.

That individual faces charges including aggravated drunk driving, resisting law enforcement, drug offences, unauthorised vehicle use, and a minor firearms violation.
