The Faroese Tax Agency has issued a warning about fake SMS messages—known as “smishing”—attempting to trick recipients into sharing their tax login credentials, reports Kringvarp Føroya.

Recent reports indicate that individuals have received text messages falsely claiming to be from Samleikanum, the Faroese tax system. The scam aims to deceive people into disclosing their login information for tax records.

Jógvan Jákupsson, reporting for KVF, notes that while Faroya Tele, the local telecom provider, is working to block such messages, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant. The practice, a form of phishing conducted via SMS, relies on various deceptive tactics to manipulate victims.

Residents are advised to verify the authenticity of any unexpected tax-related communication before responding.
