Man arrested after threats near government headquarters in Oslo
A man in his 60s has been detained near Norway’s government quarter in Oslo after making serious threats, police confirmed Monday. Bomb disposal units inspected a truck linked to the incident but found no suspicious items.
According to Dagbladet, citing a press statement from Oslo Police District, the man was taken into custody for issuing “grave threats” suggesting a potential public danger. “The arrested individual made threats implying something in the truck could pose a risk to the public,” operations manager Eirik Sannes told reporters.
Police confirmed the vehicle in question was a waste collection truck, as reported by VG. The bomb squad conducted a search but discovered nothing hazardous. Authorities will maintain a visible presence in the area throughout the day, coinciding with the official opening of the new government complex at noon.
The incident follows heightened security measures ahead of the quarter’s inauguration. No further details about the man’s identity or motives have been released.
