Former DR quiz host Stig Krabbe Barfoed dies aged 92

Stig Krabbe Barfoed, best known as host of the DR quiz programme “Klar, parat, svar”, has died aged 92, DR reports. He died on Tuesday morning in Copenhagen, where he was also born on 29 May 1934.

His family told news agency Ritzau that he leaves behind five children and several grandchildren.

Barfoed studied the humanities at the University of Copenhagen. A job as a student announcer at Denmark’s Radio developed into a career at the broadcaster.

He joined DR’s radio theatre in 1969 and later became a programme editor and host at the broadcaster’s department in Aarhus. There, he produced several programmes about Danish artists and hosted programmes including “Landet rundt”.

Quiz and voiceover work

Barfoed hosted “Klar, parat, svar” when the quiz aired in prime-time television in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Through the programme “Kunstquizzen”, he also helped make performance artist Jens Jørgen Thorsen known to Danish audiences.

He provided voiceovers for a number of DR programmes, including “En bedre verden”, “En nomadefamilie i Vestafrika” and “Fritidsdyr”.

As a producer, he helped develop Jørgen Leth’s 1973 cycling short film “Eddy Merckx i nærheden af en kop kaffe”.

Before joining DR, Barfoed worked as culture editor at the Aalborg Stiftstidende newspaper. While living in Aalborg, he helped establish Jomfru Ane Teatret, a theatre.
