Police seize nearly 200 hand grenades in Sweden over one month
Swedish police confiscated nearly 200 hand grenades between mid-February and mid-March, national broadcaster SVT Nyheter reports, citing figures from public radio SR Ekot.
“These are very large quantities, seized in a short time—this is unusual,” said Alexander Wallenius of the national police operations centre.
Around 100 grenades were seized in a single operation in western Sweden last week, while over 50 were found in Stockholm and roughly 25 in Skåne. The remaining grenades were discovered in other locations.
Police believe the weapons were smuggled into Sweden. “Our assessment is that these hand grenades were brought into the country. How exactly this smuggling occurred and who may be involved are questions the investigations will examine,” Wallenius added.
