Drivers face queues as holiday return weekend peaks

Traffic is expected to be heavy across Denmark on Sunday as the final day of the summer holiday return weekend brings large numbers of cars onto the roads, DR reports.

The Danish Road Directorate forecasts a high risk of queues and longer journey times. Traffic may be particularly heavy around Odense and on the route between Vejle and Aarhus.

Avoid the busiest hours

Tor Jakobsen, an on-duty official at the Danish Road Directorate, advises drivers to avoid travelling between noon and 4pm if possible and to allow extra time for the journey.

Check for alternative routes

Slow traffic or congestion is expected in both directions on the E20 motorway around Odense. Roadworks on the E45 between Vejle and Aarhus have also led to lower speed limits and changed driving conditions.

Drivers considering alternative routes should check their GPS navigation, Jakobsen says. He also advises motorists to follow P4 Trafik for updates.

Bring plenty of water

Holiday traffic will not be the only source of congestion in Jutland. Smukfest, a festival, also ends on Sunday, which could add festival traffic to the roads.

Jakobsen advises drivers to keep an eye on the weather and bring plenty of water, especially on longer journeys, as it could become warm.
