Norwegian journalist and broadcaster Christian Borch, 81, has resumed his popular lecture series just days after suffering a sudden allergic reaction during a live TV2 news broadcast, Dagbladet reports.

Borch collapsed on air on March 6 while appearing as a panelist on Nyhetskompaniet, a current affairs program. Footage showed his eyes rolling back before he lost consciousness, prompting co-panelists and host Rune Kjos to call for medical assistance. The broadcast was briefly interrupted as producers cut to a break.

In an interview with Dagbladet, Borch described the incident as an acute allergic reaction to medication—an event neither he nor medical professionals could have anticipated. “It just struck me suddenly, and then I woke up somewhere else,” he said. While witnesses reported the episode appeared severe, Borch emphasized the condition itself was less dangerous than the dramatic visuals suggested. “Given that it wasn’t actually life-threatening, the signal it sent was far more alarming than reality.”

The veteran broadcaster has since switched medications and reports being in “radiant health,” though he acknowledged the unexpected publicity has been uncomfortable. “It’s been a bit unpleasant to attract so much attention for something I never intended to make a spectacle of,” he said.

Borch, a former NRK profile, now devotes much of his time to lectures on global politics—a subject he notes is in high demand. “I’m constantly asked to speak. People are clearly very engaged with the international situation.” His recent talk at Tanum and Jong senior center in Bærum drew a full house, part of a packed schedule that extends through late 2026. “I’ve had to stop accepting new bookings until nearly Christmas. Maybe that’s my own fault for saying yes to everything, but it’s tremendously fun. It’s stimulating—I just think it’s bloody enjoyable.”

Despite the incident, Borch remains a sought-after commentator, balancing public appearances with his usual fitness routine. He offered one piece of advice for fellow broadcasters: “In my experience, you really shouldn’t do live TV in this condition. Consider this a warning to others—it causes an awful lot of fuss.”
