Faroese election debate focuses on housing crisis and infrastructure projects
A live election debate in Tórshavn on Monday evening will tackle pressing issues including the Faroe Islands’ housing shortage and the controversial Suðuroy Tunnel project, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The Trapputing debate, broadcast from Argjahamri, will feature local residents voicing concerns over housing affordability and infrastructure. Leif Hansen, one of the participants, is expected to question how the government’s commitment to large-scale projects like the Suðuroy Tunnel affects other public investments.
Anna Margit Dalsgaard will highlight the urgent need for housing that ordinary Faroese can afford, warning that without action, young people studying abroad may never return. “We have to do something,” she said.
Transport links to the outer islands will also be addressed, with Nólsoy resident Aðalbjørg Linklett criticising inadequate ferry services and calling for political guarantees ahead of the upcoming election.
The debate airs Monday at 20:00 local time, with further sessions scheduled in Klaksvík (March 18) and Oyrasund (March 22).
