Progressive Party’s candidate list for Norðurþing approved

Iceland, local elections, norðurþing, politics, progressive partyThe Progressive Party has finalised its candidate list for the upcoming Norðurþing municipal elections, with current mayor Sigurjón Þórðarson securing the top spot.
The party’s general assembly approved the list on Saturday, placing Þórðarson first, followed by council member Sigríður Dögg Guðmundsdóttir in second position. Newcomer Jónas Guðmundsson, a local farmer, will run in third place, while former council chair Elín Sigurðardóttir takes fourth.
The Progressive Party currently holds five of the nine seats on the Norðurþing municipal council. Elections for the northern Icelandic municipality will take place on 25 May, alongside local votes across the country.
