A court in Western Uusimaa has issued a ruling concerning a 21-year-old man accused of two attempted murders. The alleged incidents occurred during the night of September 19 in Leppävaara, Espoo, specifically at a local market and its vicinity. According to the charges, the intended targets were two police officers who fortunately did not sustain any injuries during the altercation.

Prior to the events, multiple police units had been searching for the man in his twenties. The police apprehended him at the market, where he was found in possession of a firearm. The prosecution stated that while fleeing from the officers, the man fired at them, though the bullets missed their mark. He admitted to having the gun but denied shooting at the police, claiming he discharged his weapon into the air as a means of intimidation.

The court determined that the evidence presented did not meet the required level of intent necessary to constitute an attempted murder charge. Instead, the young man was convicted of attempted aggravated assault, violently resisting an officer, and a firearms offense, resulting in a four-year prison sentence. Additionally, the court imposed a residual penalty.

It is important to note that the court’s ruling is not yet final and may be subject to appeal.
