Danish drivers tend to struggle with icy conditions when winter arrives, which may indicate a delay in changing tires. As temperatures dropped today, multiple traffic accidents occurred, leading to the closure of the E20 motorway towards Funen due to black ice and slippery roads. It is advisable to switch from summer to winter or all-season tires when temperatures fall below seven degrees Celsius.
Experts suggest that some may benefit more by completely replacing summer tires with all-season options. Yasser Abaiji, a technician, emphasizes that the fundamental recommendation remains unchanged: seasonal tires offer the best performance. Summer tires excel in hot weather, while winter tires are optimal for snowy conditions, with all-season tires serving as a middle ground.
Over the past decade, all-season tire technology has steadily improved, offering a viable solution for those with moderate driving needs. For urban drivers who primarily navigate cleared and salted roads, opting for all-season tires is deemed acceptable.
Abaiji provides a tip for tire shoppers: look for the specific markings on all-season tires. If a tire features a snowflake symbol surrounded by a mountain graphic, it meets the technical standards of a winter tire. All-season tires combine characteristics of both summer and winter tires, with the mountain and snowflake emblem signifying winter-grade performance.
As of December 1, it becomes permissible to drive on Swedish winter roads with all-season tires, provided they have the correct markings. Potential buyers are encouraged to consult independent tire assessments to identify the most suitable options. However, for those who drive extensively outside urban areas on unplowed roads, investing in dedicated winter tires remains the best recommendation.
