The significance of November for holiday shopping has notably increased, according to a recent report. In the consumer electronics sector, including both electronics and appliances, this month has surpassed December in sales volume. This shift is largely attributed to the promotional activities surrounding Black Friday, as noted by an economic expert. The impact of Black Friday is especially pronounced in clothing and sports retail.

December remains the peak season for retail, with sales typically rising by approximately 20% compared to the average monthly sales throughout the year. Just five years ago, holiday shopping typically ramped up only around Independence Day. Black Friday, which originated in the United States, was initially just a single day of significant discounts but has now evolved in Finland into a week-long event termed Black Week, with some retailers even extending promotions throughout November.

However, concerns have emerged about the implications of prolonged discount periods. According to regulatory experts, the requirements regarding promotional periods are unclear for many businesses, and ongoing discounts can mislead consumers. Trust in a brand can quickly erode when consumers perceive deceptive practices.

Shoppers are advised to approach these extensive discount campaigns cautiously, as the rise of online shopping has also attracted fraudulent operators. It’s essential to research unfamiliar online retailers and consider using credit cards for purchases to ensure buyer protection.

Black Friday and other global discount events, such as Singles’ Day and Cyber Monday, are driving a more competitive market environment, prompting retailers to respond to both domestic and international consumer demands for early holiday shopping incentives.
