A series of small earthquakes occurred on the Reykjanes Peninsula tonight, with around 40 tremors detected by the Icelandic Meteorological Office around 3:30 AM. The seismic activity, centered between Stóra-Skógfell and Sýlingarfell, lasted approximately thirty minutes.

Salóme Jórunnar Bernharðsdóttir, a natural hazard expert, indicated that while monitoring systems initially suggested a potential volcanic eruption could be imminent, further measurements indicated no signs of approaching magma movement. The brief period of activity led experts to conclude that there was likely insufficient magma accumulation to trigger an eruption.

Although the Icelandic Meteorological Office initiated a response due to the uncertain nature of the events, they reassured that significant volcanic threats were not present at this time. The largest earthquakes in the swarm registered around magnitude one.

An updated risk assessment from the Meteorological Office is expected to be released tomorrow, as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
