Negotiations continue between teachers and state in Iceland over wage dispute
Negotiations between teachers and the state and municipalities in Iceland are still far from reaching an agreement, according to the head of the Icelandic Teachers’ Association. Today, negotiating committees convened at Karphúsið, focusing on a specific aspect of the ongoing wage dispute.
The meeting began in the afternoon and concluded by 5 PM. The association’s president noted a new approach to discussions concerning the tasks of teachers and the educational system. The aim is to establish a broader foundation for negotiations.
While significant barriers remain, the committees are actively exploring ways to bridge gaps and find common ground. The dialogue indicates a willingness to rethink certain aspects of the teaching profession and the operational framework of schools, which could ultimately lead to a more satisfactory resolution for all parties involved.
In the face of ongoing challenges, the Teachers’ Association is committed to advocating for their members and ensuring that their concerns are heard in negotiations with both state and municipal representatives.
