Negotiations collapse between Workers’ Union, Local Government Employers’ Association, and Ministry of Finance

Negotiations for a new agreement between the Workers’ Union, the Local Government Employers’ Association, and the Ministry of Finance have collapsed.

The parties presented their demands on October 8, and since then, six negotiation meetings have taken place.

While the discussions were initially progressing well, a stalemate was reached just as it appeared an agreement was within reach. The Local Government Employers’ Association and the Ministry of Finance have now referred the matter to a mediation board, according to Súni Selfoss, the chairman of the Workers’ Union.
