The city of Tampere is now selling its third old daycare facility. The latest property to be put on the market is the building known as Kaleva Daycare, located on Petsamonkatu in the Kaleva district, close to the city center. This structure, designed by architect Tapani Nirose, was completed in 1953 and has served not only as a daycare center but also as a residence and social services office.
The building has been vacant since 2017. It is protected, which means it cannot be demolished, imposing specific conditions on any renovations or constructions. For instance, new balconies cannot be added, and the roof design must remain unchanged. Any proposed alterations must be submitted to heritage authorities for review.
The total gross area of the Kaleva Daycare is 3,707 square meters, with a lot area of 6,764 square meters. Bids must be submitted by the end of November, with the city prioritizing the highest offer.
Additionally, Tampere’s website lists other properties for sale, including Pelipuiston Daycare in Hervanta and the former daycare on Virontörmänkatu in Tesoma. On Tuesday, the city announced the sale of properties in the old Pyynikki hospital area, which includes the protected former hospital, an old sauna building, and a laundry and heating center slated for demolition.
