Finnish Parliament considers educational support reform for basic education
The proposed reform of educational support for basic education is currently under consideration in the Finnish Parliament, with the goal of having the law approved by the turn of the year, according to the Ministry of Education and Culture. Based on feedback from the consultation round, a provision that would have prohibited delaying the start of school has been removed from the proposal. This provision was initially justified by the principle that children have the right to participate in basic education alongside their age group. Consequently, the issue remains unchanged, allowing for the postponement of a child’s school commencement by one year based on evaluations conducted by experts.
