Stebbi Jak has taken his music in a new direction after ending a 15-year collaboration with the band Dimma, mbl.is reports.

Speaking on the Dagmál programme, he said he would call the new chapter in his musical and personal life “Look Around You”, referring to his new album, Líttu í kringum þig.

“It is good to raise your head and look around. If you look around, you will see the opportunities,” Stebbi said. He added that he did not believe people were simply lucky, saying they created their own luck by looking for opportunities.

Stebbi will celebrate the album’s release with concerts at Græni hatturinn in Akureyri on Friday, August 21, and at Bæjarbíó in Hafnarfjörður on Friday, September 4.

During the programme, he performed “Dönsum inn í hljóða nótt” from the new album. The song grew out of a conversation with his late friend and musician Prins Póló in the same year that Prins Póló died.

Stebbi recalled explaining how he approached music and songwriting when Prins Póló told him: “Stefán, just try writing songs that people understand.” When Stebbi asked what they should be about, Prins Póló replied: “Just everyday life. There is most of that. It is always everyday life.”

Stebbi said he had taken that advice to heart, adding that when everyday life is good, special occasions become better.
