Daníel Sigurðsson paid 942 million kroner in tax

Daníel Sigurðsson, managing director of DS Lausnir, paid 942 million Icelandic kroner in capital income tax in 2025, according to an article by mbl.is citing Viðskiptablaðið. That made him Iceland’s highest-taxed individual for the year.

His taxable capital income totalled nearly 4.3 billion kroner, according to the Icelandic Director of Revenue’s assessment register. The income included interest and rental income, dividends, capital gains and, where applicable, copyright payments.

Sigurðsson founded DS Lausnir in 2002. The company specialises in selling, leasing and servicing construction cranes. He owned the entire company until Fagkaup bought a 70 per cent stake from him last year.

DS Lausnir had turnover of 2.5 billion kroner in 2025 and recorded a profit of 581 million kroner, up from 491 million in 2024. Its assets were valued at 3.5 billion kroner at the end of the year, while equity stood at 3 billion kroner.

IKEA brothers follow

Twelve Icelanders received more than 1 billion kroner in capital income in 2025.

Sigurður Gísli Pálmason, the former owner of IKEA in Iceland and the Baltic states, paid 696 million kroner in capital income tax. His capital income amounted to about 3.2 billion kroner.

Sigurður Gísli and his brother Jón Pálmason sold their operations in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in 2024. Sigurður Gísli also sold his stake in IKEA Iceland to Jón. Jón Pálmason’s capital income amounted to nearly 1.3 billion kroner in 2025.
