The President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, has expressed deep sorrow over the news of an assassination attempt on Donald Trump. He highlighted the incident as a reminder of the relative safety enjoyed by Icelandic society.

The attack on Donald Trump occurred in Pennsylvania yesterday, and the President of Iceland has expressed his relief that Trump survived. He said, “This incident reminds us that in Iceland, we have the privilege of living in a society where presidential candidates, other public officials, and elected representatives can walk freely without fearing this kind of threat. We should be thankful for that and consider whether we want to continue living in such a society.”

Thankfully, the perpetrator was unsuccessful in his attempt. However, the fact that people were injured at the rally and that Americans have to live with the possibility of such events is distressing.

World leaders have condemned the attack on Donald Trump, former President of the United States. A gunshot grazed Trump’s right ear as he was delivering a speech at his campaign rally for the U.S. presidential election.

The attack is being investigated as an attempted murder. One person died and two were seriously injured during the shooting. The twenty-year-old perpetrator, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead by the secret service.
