LO calls for higher wages and reduced working hours in Sweden
The LO (Swedish Trade Union Confederation) is calling for higher wages for all workers, specifically advocating for increased investments for those with the lowest incomes and part-time employees. Current detailed figures have not been disclosed, but LO spokesperson Veli-Pekka Säikkäla indicated that this information will be released in a few weeks.
Additionally, the LO representatives have announced plans to develop concrete proposals regarding reduced working hours. They intend to conduct an analysis of global trends related to shorter workweeks. Säikkäla acknowledged that while there are costs associated with this initiative, there are also potential benefits to consider.
Malin Ragnegård, Chairperson of the Kommunal Union, underscored that LO’s announcement represents a significant step forward, particularly highlighting the importance of support for low-wage workers. She stated, “This is incredibly important.”
The union’s ongoing discussions and proposals reflect a broader focus on enhancing worker conditions and addressing wage disparities within the labor market.
