German migrants are increasingly popular in the Danish job market, especially as many companies face labor shortages. For example, VM Tarm, a manufacturer based in western Jutland, has recently hired three Germans, according to production manager Karsten Lauridsen. He notes their quick adaptation to the workplace culture and high level of professionalism, stating, “When they are both highly skilled and fit into the jargon, we couldn’t ask for more.”

One successful German employee at VM Tarm is Marco Gross, who moved to Skjern with his wife and two children a year ago. He appreciates the more relaxed work life in Denmark compared to Germany and values having the sea nearby. Prior to relocating, he took Danish language classes for six months to ease his transition. “Language was important for us to communicate at the supermarket and with colleagues,” Gross explains.

Since 2019, the number of Germans living in Denmark has surged by 32%. This trend is not limited to southern Jutland; it is spreading nationwide. In the Ringkøbing-Skjern municipality, where Gross resides, the German population has increased by 71% over the past five years, now totaling 643 residents. Vice Mayor Søren Elbæk expresses appreciation for this growth, highlighting the need for skilled labor in local businesses.

In response to this influx, the municipality has initiated targeted outreach, including German information days and hiring a guide for German newcomers. While some experts are cautious about the long-term impact of these initiatives, they acknowledge that the presence of German immigrants is making a significant difference in the community.

For Marco Gross and his family, moving to Denmark has been a positive decision, offering better access to nature, education, and a calmer political climate. The family plans to stay in Denmark for the foreseeable future.
