Six children employed illegally by LM Multiservices in Odsherred, Denmark amid asbestos scandal
This week, it was reported that six children aged 12 to 16 were employed by LM Multiservices, a company accused of hiring minors for illegal work involving hazardous asbestos materials. The owner, Luini Joe Mammen, claimed that a subcontractor was responsible for the work, arguing that LM Multiservices should not be held accountable. However, an inspection report from the Work Environment Authority reveals inconsistencies in Mammen’s statements.
A phone note from September 19 confirms that LM Multiservices, not a subcontractor, was responsible for the asbestos removal. Mammen had previously asserted that all workers were trained in asbestos handling and familiar with related regulations, contradicting earlier claims to the contrary.
Following multiple inspections from September 18 to 20, the Work Environment Authority issued 14 urgent orders due to violations.
The investigation deepened when Mammen called Thomas Paulsen from Odsherred Municipality on September 20, who claimed he was guiding two young interns aged 14 and 15. Paulsen stated he had no knowledge of their involvement with asbestos or that such work was illegal.
However, officials from Odsherred Municipality denied any knowledge of a Thomas Paulsen in that role, with further confirmation that they do not employ any male advisors.
According to the mayor of Odsherred, Karina Vincentz, the children are vulnerable and were previously known to local support services. She emphasized that the investigation into the company’s practices needs to be addressed by law enforcement and regulatory bodies.
Both the Mid and West Zealand Police and South and South Jutland Police are now investigating the matter. Attempts to contact “Thomas Paulsen” for a comment have been unsuccessful.
