Tórshavn’s port to welcome 52 cruise ships next year bringing 30,000 visitors
Tórshavn’s port is set to welcome 52 cruise ships next year, bringing an estimated 30,000 visitors to the capital of the Faroe Islands, according to the Tórshavnar harbor officials. The first ship of the season, Bolette, is scheduled to arrive on April 30.
This year, Tórshavn hosted a total of 46 ships, which carried 24,458 passengers. However, three ships had to cancel their visits.
Hanus Mikkelsen, the director of Tórshavnar harbor, recently announced the port’s membership in the Environmental Port Index (EPI) as of February. The EPI is a database that monitors environmental pollution caused by cruise ships, assigning scores based on their levels of emissions. A lower score indicates less pollution, while a higher score reflects greater environmental impact. This year, the lowest score recorded was 36, while the highest reached 91. The scores for harbors that Tórshavn typically compares itself to range between 40 and 47.
