Nature Preservation Committee approves wind turbine construction at Klivaløkshaga in Sandoy district
The Nature Preservation Committee of the Sandoy district has granted permission for the construction of wind turbines at Klivaløkshaga, located west of the village of Sand.
The approval also includes the development of a road that will connect the main highway between Sand and Skopun to the west side of Klivaløkshaga. This road will pass through several pastoral lands.
However, the permission is not unconditional, as there are numerous stipulations to be met, according to Kristian Martin Joensen, the district governor and chair of the Nature Preservation Committee. The conditions include those detailed in the environmental assessment conducted by SEV, which was approved by the Environmental Agency.
Joensen emphasizes that the decision by the Nature Preservation Committee is not final; it will now proceed to the Higher Nature Preservation Committee, which has the ultimate authority. The Environmental Agency, along with the Energy Agency, requested the Nature Preservation Committee to grant this permission.
The plan involves installing five to seven wind turbines at Klivaløkshaga. The Environmental Agency has already issued a call for applications for the permit to produce electricity from wind energy in the area. The announcement was made on July 15, and the deadline for applications is set for January 15 of the following year.
