Two earthquakes strike near Trölladyngja on Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland

Two earthquakes struck near Trölladyngja on the Reykjanes Peninsula today. The first tremor occurred at 17:40, registering a magnitude of 3.6, followed by a second quake measuring 3.3 just three minutes later. Both earthquakes had their epicenters approximately five kilometers east of Mount Keili and were recorded at a depth of about five kilometers.

According to the Meteorological Office of Iceland, seismic swarms are common in the area, with the last swarm recorded on September 22, featuring quakes of magnitude less than 3. Currently, around 20 smaller aftershocks have been detected, indicating an ongoing aftershock sequence. No significant unrest has been reported in the region, and the earthquakes were felt in the capital area.

Both tremors originated to the east of Mount Keili.
