Flight from Beirut arrives at Copenhagen Airport bringing citizens home amid escalating tensions

A flight from Beirut has arrived at Copenhagen Airport, bringing several citizens who heeded the Foreign Ministry’s advice to leave Lebanon. Among them was Rasmie El Assi, who had spent the past three weeks visiting family. But it was time for her to return home, as the situation had become untenable, according to her son, Wassim Elbanna.

“As the situation escalated, we decided it was best to call her back. The grandchildren were asking for her and wondering why she was still there,” he stated. Elbanna acknowledged his mother’s desire to stay with her siblings and family, but he emphasized the chaos of the current situation, explaining that just ten minutes after boarding, they could hear bomb explosions near the airport.

Despite the recent bombings in the Lebanese capital on Friday, the flight took off safely, providing much-needed relief to those awaiting their loved ones. “When a family member is on a flight home amidst bombings, a lot of emotions rush through you. You think, ‘Will they make it?'” Elbanna remarked, expressing immense gratitude that his mother returned unharmed.

“It’s a fantastic feeling, of course. But it’s impossible not to think of the family left behind in ruins,” he added.
